Sankang Ozone Generator-Ozone Deodorization Principle

Ozone is a strong oxidant composed of three oxygen atoms. Leveraging its properties, Sankang ozone generator are widely used in water treatment facilities, such as drinking water deodorization and manure treatment, to remove odors.

Ozone substances are composed of sulfides or organic acids, and deodorization is achieved through the strong oxidative reaction of ozone. Generally speaking, ozone is highly reactive with compounds containing -SH, =S, -NH2, =NH, -OH, and CHO groups. Odorants often contain these functional groups, making ozone effective for deodorization of many odorous substances. For example, ozone reacts with hydrogen sulfide and methyl mercaptan, representative substances in manure treatment, in the following reaction to eliminate odors.

H2S + O3 → S + H2O + O2

(SO2 + H2O)

CH3SH + O3 → CH3OH + SO2

Ozone Deodorization Methods

Ozone deodorization methods can be broadly divided into two categories. The first is the inhalation method, where gas from an ozone generator is introduced into the device, where it reacts with ozone gas. The remaining ozone decomposes into oxygen and is released outside the device. This method incorporates a catalyst at the outlet to decompose ozone, which also promotes the reaction between ozone and odorous substances. The other is the fumigation method, where ozone is released into the room where the odor is present, acting on ozone substances in the air and on odors adhering to floors, walls, ceilings, and other surfaces.

The inhalation method, which does not release ozone outside the device, is suitable for occupied spaces and has been used in deodorization systems in toilets and cold storage facilities. However, this method only deodorizes odor molecules in the air and is less effective against ozone adhering to walls, screens, and other surfaces within the room.
